3 Affordable Wedding Calligraphy Ideas
If you’ve read my story, then you know that I’m a math major turned calligrapher. This means that I’m all about the numbers and that I’m pretty dang good at keeping a balanced budget. Now, we know that there’s nothing that breaks the bank quite like a wedding. To help you keep that budget in check, here are 3 affordable wedding calligraphy ideas.
1 Signage
Whether it outlines the ceremony order, the menu or directions to the bathroom, signs can be a great affordable way to give your guests important information. Some calligraphers (including Bon Paper House) will charge you based on the square footage of your sign. Why is this helpful? Depending on the text you want to include, you can always size your sign down until the final cost fits within your budget!
Wooden/chalk boards, windows and mirrors are trendy canvases for signs, but these will typically cost you more because of the materials needed to write on them and the extra labour it involves. Another great way to save on signage is just asking for signs written on card stock and framing them yourself!
2 Table Numbers
Now again, this depends on the calligrapher you’re working with, but if you want a simple table number written in calligraphy on card stock, it typically won’t cost you more than buying a greeting card from Chapters!
3 Wedding Vows
This is probably my favourite way of incorporating calligraphy into your wedding. The only downside is you and your significant other need to be on the ball enough to have your vows written a few weeks before your wedding. BUT, if you can do that, this is a great way to commemorate the promises you make to each other. Bonus: you can frame your vows after your big day and hang them in your home so you have a daily reminder of the why behind your marriage!
So what makes all of the above so affordable? They are usually all written on paper. Writing on paper is a calligrapher’s bread and butter. Paper is also much cheaper (and easier) to attain than a slab of wood, marble tiles or whatever else you can think of. If you have an idea for incorporating calligraphy into your wedding, but find that it’s not going to fit in your wedding budget, try thinking of ways you can reduce the cost of materials.
Calligraphy is often seen as a luxury add-on for weddings and events, but if it’s something you really want to include, I promise there is always an affordable way to do it. Don’t believe me?
