Covid-19 Pandemic Wedding Trends to Keep

I’m not sure what wedding celebrations will look like after the pandemic subsides. Even though the past year has been very difficult for all of us, I hope some wedding related things Covid-19 brought about are here to stay:

1. Smaller Guest Counts

Along with the pandemic came the wave of micro-weddings. With limited capacity at venues and a surge in backyard weddings, we are seeing couples getting married in very intimate settings.

When you are wedding planning, the budget is always at the forefront of your mind. A smaller guest count means that couples need to pay for fewer meals, invitations, place cards, chairs, wedding favours etc. As a result, couples have more freedom with their dollars and are able to splurge on some of their priority items.

2. Prioritize the Meal

The dance party is often the main source of entertainment at a wedding reception. However, since pandemic public health measures have prohibited dancing, couples are focusing more on providing a memorable dinner instead.

Couples can decide to add extra courses or opt for a more formal sit-down dinner in lieu of dancing the night away. Providing individual menus and place cards can be useful ways to encourage guests to remain in their seats if physical distancing regulations persist.

3. Enhance the Experience

At the beginning of the pandemic, I saw an increase in wedding inquiries looking for more luxurious materials and processes. Because there was less need for specialty services (like a DJ) and fewer guests, couples suddenly had more flexibility in their wedding budget. Seeing couples decide to invest that budget into the guests that could attend was very heartwarming.

For instance, create a memorable experience for your guests by opting for that handmade paper wedding invitation. Or going for that custom wax seal. Even adding silk ribbon to their place card. We know now more than ever that these small celebrations cannot be taken for granted. All these little details make the celebrations that can happen even more special.

Even as Covid-19 vaccines roll out, it is unclear what the future for weddings and events will hold. As someone who treasures these special occasions, I hope we can all find a way to celebrate safely.
