Elegant. That’s the first word that comes to mind when I think back to Kevin and Karla’s Evergreen Brickworks wedding. Everywhere you looked — from the flowers, to the decor to the signage — you saw a sea of soft greys, white and lots of greenery. In the midst of all that neutral beauty were Kevin and Karla, literally glowing with love and joy.

This sweet couple kept things simple and clean, from Karla’s beautiful streamlined gown, Kevin’s sharp black tux and all the way to the ceremony decor. However, simple doesn’t mean lacking in luxury or style. One of my favourite parts of their wedding day decor was the reception area.

I love how food really brings people together and how Kevin and Karla elevated that experience for their guests. The cutlery, garlands of greenery and personalized menus weren’t just created to make everything look “pretty”. Everything worked together to create a unique memory for the couple and each of their guests.

Because of the way Evergreen Brickworks is laid out, we used calligraphy on custom signage to make things easier for the guests. We had signs for the bathrooms, signs for the ceremony and also a welcome sign with the couple’s names on it. The planning team (consisting of my favourite Lu Parkinson and Sweet Woodruff) thought of everything.

My favourite way that calligraphy was incorporated? The first way was the DIY seating chart that the couple helped me with. With Kevin measuring the space between cards, me nailing them in and Karla supervising to make sure everything was centred, this was a team effort. Like I said…Kevin and Karla are the sweetest couple! The second way was the personalized menu cards. To keep things cohesive, the calligraphy style imitated the invitations, table numbers and menus which were ordered from Minted. Once I added each guests’ names to them, the menus also doubled as place cards.
