Our Wedding: Ceremony Decor DIY

This post isn’t calligraphy related, but it is wedding related so it’s comin at ya today! After posting about some of our DIY wedding projects on Instagram, I got a lot of messages asking how we made them. So I just wanted to share the tutorial I used as well as a few extra steps we added to make it even easier.

All photos were taken by the incredibly talented Natalie Elyse Photography!

Disclaimer: Every time I say “I” from here on out, I actually mean “My mom, husband (and anyone else that helped) and I”.

Ceremony Backdrop DIY

I followed this tutorial from Style Me Pretty for the most part. Instead of using wax paper though, I used parchment paper bought from Costco. Our backdrop was biiig (at least 4 m wide) and we only used two large rolls from Costco to make it all! Keep in mind we also used some of these paper cones for the reception decor as well, which will be detailed in a future blog post. So the tutorial on Style Me Pretty already has the steps broken down for you, but here are some additional things we did that you may find useful as well:

Instructions

STEP 1

Using a yoghurt container lid, roll out and cut a sheet of parchment paper so that three of these lids, with a small gap between them, can fit across the width of it.

STEP 2

Fold the parchment paper in thirds like an accordion and then fold in half (or in thirds if your lid is small enough to fit three across the length of the parchment paper as well).

STEP 3

Trace the yoghurt lid on the parchment paper and attach 4 paper clips to the corners of the “accordion”. This helps to keep all the paper in place as you’re cutting. You can choose to use more or less paper clips (or even none at all), but I found this helped us keep the size of the circles consistent.

STEP 4

Cut the circle along the lines you traced out, moving the paper clips out of your way as you go but still keeping all the papers clipped together until you have a pile of circles.

STEP 5

The paper clips will be on the scrap of parchment paper now. Remove them and clip your pile of circles together. Fold the pile of circles in half and cut along that line. Remove paper clips.

STEP 6

Follow steps 3 – 8 from the Style Me Pretty tutorial.
